A Drake 2-B from KW4H

I have been collecting and analyzing Drake 2B serial numbers for many years now. I did not expect to end up with one of my own.

Steve Reed, KW4H — the KNOBS > MENUS guy — refurbished this Drake 2-B and a matching 2-BQ Q-multiplier, and sent them both to me as a gift for the serial-number work on how many were ever made. Restoring these radios is his passion, and his work is truly amazing. He sent me many emails with picture updates on the work he did, and at some point I'd like to write about that here. Anyway, the stamp on the rear apron is 10219. It is now in the serial number sample, and the plate is in the catalog.

I am really grateful. Not only for a working boat anchor, which honestly has amazing audio, especially on CW, but for the kind of ham-radio generosity that still surprises me. Bill Meara, N2CQR, of the SolderSmoke podcast helped start this whole serial-number hunt in 2011, and then set this gift up. Thank you, Steve. Thank you, Bill.
